There’s a plan to support our community

Homes Victoria’s High-Rise Redevelopment project is Australia’s largest urban renewal project.

It will transform Melbourne’s social housing neighbourhoods, redeveloping 44 ageing high-rises and other buildings with modern, accessible and energy efficient homes and improved community facilities.

This is a pipeline of projects that will be delivered as part of the Big Housing Build between now and 2051.

Once completed, there will be at least 10% more social housing for Victorians who need it and more homes close to schools, services, transport and jobs.

But that’s not all. There's a plan to support renter communities as we retire older social housing to deliver more and better homes.

Some renters are already moving and others will move in the future but there's help every step of the way from the choice to stay close to keeping connected and coming back.

Several social housing renters took the time to discuss their renter journey with us.

About the High-Rise Redevelopment project

This is a long-term project that will happen in careful stages. When it’s time to move, renters are given plenty of notice and support to find a suitable new home including homes in their current neighbourhood.

When new homes are built renters have the right to return to their neighbourhood based on their ongoing eligibility, needs and suitability of the new homes.
